It is transmitted primarily through saliva. It is also called oral herpes. It is mostly seen in children. Most blisters are formed on the lips and around the mouth and can also seen on the tongue and face. These are common places of HSV 1; however, the blisters can appear anywhere on the skin. It can also cause Genital Herpes.
The patent may develop symptoms as flu like fever, muscle pains etc. And there may be association of infection presented with discharge, pain, and sensitivity to light. All above symptoms if start they can last from 2-3 weeks.
Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2) or Herpes Genitalis:
In the present article, we will know in detail about Herpes genitalis, known as Herpes, which is caused by Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV-2).
Herpes simplex type 2 is an important sexually transmitted disease that is associated with genital infections for both males and females.
Transmission of Herpes Genitalis is mainly by direct contact with virus-containing secretions from wounds/ulcers either by anal or vaginal sex or oral sex without using any condom. Sometimes, one can infected with this virus by using common sexual toys from the infected person.
After the initial infection, a visible outbreak consists of single or clustered blisters on the genitalia, perineum, buttocks, upper thighs or perianal areas. Anyone can get genital herpes by having vaginal, oral or anal sex with someone who has the disease.
The lesions occur on the shaft, glans of the penis or other parts of the genital region or on the buttocks, inner thighs, and buttocks in men. In females, lesions appear on or near the pubis, clitoris or other parts of the vulva, buttocks or anus.
Other common symptoms include discharge from the penis or vagina, fever, headache, muscle pain (myalgia), swollen & enlarged lymph nodes & malaise. Women often experience additional symptoms that include painful urination (dysuria) & cervicitis. After 2 – 3 weeks, existing lesions progress into ulcers & then crust and heal, although lesions on mucosal surfaces may never form crusts.
It infects both males and females. If a female is infected with this virus, it can spread to the baby during the process of delivery and cause neonatal herpes infection in the newborn.
The signs of herpes in a newborn baby include ulcers on the genitals, body, and face. Babies who are born with genital herpes can develop very severe complications like blindness, brain damage and death. To avoid that infection, it is better to deliver the baby through caesarean section.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of Herpes genitalis may develop within 7 days after the first exposure. The initial symptoms of herpes are fever associated with tingling or shooting pain, itching and burning sensation while passing the urine. Followed by formation of small blisters or vesicles at that site and associated with lymph node enlargement.
In females the blisters may appear on clitoris, labia, vestibule, vagina, perineum, and cervix and near scrotum and on glans & on shaft of penis, penis in the males.
The blisters can convert into ulcers and can heal at the same time. It takes about 1-2 weeks to complete the whole process. After that patient has a symptomless period. There are possibilities that herpes infection could recur with fewer signs.
“A typical sign of Herpes Genital that occurs before the initiation of the issue includes a tingling sensation on the penis. The next is, the blisters (one or more) come on the site. Blisters look like a bunch of grapes or sugar particles. One feels pain, burning, itching, redness, and tingling sensation. It lasts for 4-8 days—then blisters burst & an open wound is formed—again, it remains for 3-5 days & then heals up. One will feel that nothing has happened.
Again, this episode is repeated after 10-20-30 days or in months, usually when one takes excessive alcohol or non-veg or smoking, has excessive tension or anxiety, excessively works in heat/sunlight, or does not take proper rest for 3/4 days under some workload or tension !!
